Flying High — U-I/O-VL #7

$450.00
Description: The Frankfort Lighthouse — the Safe Harbor Light — is a welcoming image shared by millians of people. Now imagine owning a piece of this historic landmark! The city of Frankfort has partnered with Korner Gem in creating jewelry that incorporates the rescued glass from the windows of the Lighthouse.

The original Frankfort Lighthouse was constructed in 1873 at the end of a wooden pier. The new square steel structure was placed on the North Pier in 1912 and was electrified in 1919. In the 1920s, construction started on new concrete breakwaters and when they were completed in 1932, the piers were deemed obsolete. The Lighthouse was moved from the North Pier and place on top of a new 2 story addition on the North Breakwall.

The cast iron lantern room was surrounded by a gallery and has a forth order Fresnel lens in it! It is 1 of 2 working Fresnel lens in Michigan!

Each purchase of this limited jewelry collection has a direct dollar allocation to the fund-raising monies needed to restore this iconic landmark.

Material: Reclaimed Glass from the Frankfort Lighthouse windows — each window on the lower 2 story addition had 2 panes of glass within it; a thicker outer pane and a thinner inner pane. The windows faced 90-110 years of being slammed with the wind, lake water, and ice and snow — most of the windows have long since broke but they hold memories in their unique weathering and breakage patterns!

It has a Sterling Silver bail and custom made frame.
