Fordite also known as Motor city agate
This material was formed by layers of paint adhering to spray lines in the paint booths of the various automotive factories. When the lines had build up to excess with paint, it was broken off to clear the lines. Prior to 1985, this material was plentiful but without value. because the paint was mice with a hardening agent and then sprayed, the "over-spray" layers have a hardness level sufficient for cutting and polishing.
Fordite/Motor city agate is truly a bit of Michigan automotive history as modern electro-magnetic painting and the dipping of auto parts have replaced the spraying process.
